We are Fundapafi (@fundapafi), a non-profit organization based in Venezuela and in the United States. In Venezuela it is chaired by Doctor Jose Ortega Lara and in the US Fundapafi USA (@fundapafiusa) represented by Alexandra Ledezma, together they are responsible for performing reconstructive surgeries on children with cleft lip and / or cleft palate in Venezuela. Our approach is sustainable and for a unique and solvable problem: Rehabilitation of patients with cleft lip and cleft palate.

Fundapafi was founded in 1990, has been operating for more than 30 years. Since its creation, more than 15,000 children have been operated by the multidisciplinary team led by Plastic Surgeon, José Ortega Lara, MD, who has over 45 years of professional experience and has completed multiple studies. He has managed to keep the foundation active and to carry out the noble mission of giving a second chance to so many children in Venezuela. Thanks to the support of private companies, collaborators and solidary families, we have been able to continue carrying out special operations where we take advantage of the opportunity and operate on to the highest number of children possible.

Many children with untreated clefts live in isolation, but most importantly, they have difficulty eating, breathing, hearing, and speaking. Treatment of the cleft is safe and the impact on the child is immediate.

Comprehensive cleft care includes essential treatments beyond cleft surgery, such as nutrition services, orthodontia and general dental care, speech therapy, and emotional support, with the goal of ensuring successful long-term rehabilitation for lip cleft patients.
