Get A Good Night’s Sleep
By Dr. Oscar Vega
Sleep is as important for human beings as food or fluid intake, because during that time multiple metabolic reactions take place that favor the proper functioning of the organism. Sleep is a good way to help not only the body but also the mind and is the best way to relax.
If you do not get enough sleep, it is very likely that you will begin to suffer from stress; the body will try to obtain energy by encouraging you to eat large amounts of food and you may develop heart disease. A good rest doubles the capacity to solve the problems posed the day before because the brain has time to synthesize what was previously learned. By sleeping properly, you will be better able to face your daily problems. If you sleep poorly, you will not be able to fight stress-related illnesses either.
The body does not function properly when it is fatigued. Try to sleep about seven hours a day and always go to bed and get up at the same time.
Avoid taking sleeping pills. The bedroom should only be used for that sole purpose to send a message to the subconscious that when you enter it your rest will begin. While you sleep there should not be any light on. Impregnate your bedroom with your favorite fragrance and make sure it is soundproof. The ideal temperature for a good night’s sleep is 72 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep bed linens clean.
BEFORE GOING TO SLEEP DO NOT CONSUME:
Alcohol
Coffee / Tea
Fatty foods
Chocolate
Drugs
Spicy foods
Have a good mattress and a pillow that allows you to align your head correctly with the rest of your body.
Before going to sleep try to relax and/or you can repeat several times the Biblical Psalm 4:8 that says: ” In peace I will lie down and sleep”. Rest is one of the main commandments of God’s law. In Ecclesiastes 4:6 the Bible says: “Better one handful with tranquility than two handfuls with toil”.
Do not watch, read, or listen to the news before going to sleep because you may not get the restful sleep you need. If you cannot fall asleep, do not stay in bed, get up and do some useful activity, relaxation or reading. Investigate why you cannot sleep well or why you are suffering from insomnia.
